To the Honorable Ann McLellan, Justice Minister of Canada:
Ms. Renee Boje was seen watering cannabis plants for her friend, cancer patient Todd McCormick. Now she is facing extradition from Canada and a mandatory 10-year prison sentence in the USA if convicted of a cultivation conspiracy. Federal courts in the USA do not allow medical marijuana defense, nor do they consider the circumstances of the case or the individual facing charges. Each participant is punished for the entire offense, not their actual role in it. In light of the minor nature of her offense, the cruel and disproportionate drug penalties in the USA, and in the interest of justice;
